FORTICRETE HALLMARK DIAMOND CONCRETE BLOCKS PRODUCED WITH AALBORG WHITE®
cement SPECIFIED FOR MULTI-MILLION POUND AWARD-WINNING CLAPHAM LANDMARK
High
performance Hallmark Diamond concrete split faced blocks from
Forticrete, the UK's leading manufacturer of decorative concrete blocks,
have been specified for the construction of Clapham One's, "The Library
Building", a stunning, 60 million pound architectural landmark in
Clapham, South London.
The subcontractor proposed a
lightweight construction for the scheme which required the expertise of
independent facades solutions providers, Taylor Maxwell Limited. This
entailed traditional Forticrete blocks being cut down to form light
weight slips, which suited both the required architectural finish, but
also to meet the onsite constraints on this scheme.
Clapham One,
the multi-award winning Clapham regeneration project, is an innovative
public private partnership between Cathedral Group, United House and
Lambeth Council, and will see the construction of a new leisure centre,
community library, healthcare centre, cafe and 199 apartments (44 of
which are social).
Clapham One's, "The Library Building" - a 12
storey block of 136, one and two bedroom, residential apartments,
utilises Forticrete's prestigious Hallmark Diamond concrete split faced
blocks which incorporate Dolomite aggregates which catch the light to
create a natural sparkle, creating a spectacular finish to external
facade of the tallest building in SW4.
Studio Egret West, the
project's architects, was tasked to breathe new life into Clapham. The
scheme, which has now accumulated quite an awards collection, has taken
home awards for "Best Mixed Use Development" at The UK Property Awards
2011, "Housing Project of the Year" at The Daily Telegraph's British
Homes Awards 2011 and was shortlisted for "Housing Project of the Year"
at this year's Building Awards 2012.
